S
cott McGillivray is a carpenter, contractor, real-
estate investor, TV host and producer, educator,
and more recently, a Dad! Meet this very savvy
young entrepreneur who turned a school project into a
successful business model and career.
Total Fit Magazine: You were very successful at a
young age. What would you say is the secret to
having a healthy, happy life, at any age?
Scott McGillivray: It has been my motto for a long time, but I
think being able to balance a healthy home, healthy fi nances
and a healthy body is the key to success. Achieving each
holds its challenges, but as with anything, you have to work
at it and maintain it there is no such thing as instant results!
You have to be a problem solver, plan ahead and keep a
positive attitude.
TF: How did you get started on this real-estate
investment path?
SM: I bought my fi rst house when I was 21, lived in the base-
ment apartment for 8 years and rented the rest of the house
to pay for all the expenses, while saving money towards the
purchase of another property. The model worked, so I just
kept going. The key is to start small, and slowly build up your
portfolio.
