varsity wrestling senior standouts
reached major milestones last week
with both Nick Bennett and Andrew
Borradaile collecting the 100th wins
of their careers in a dual match
against Cambridge-South Dorches-
ter.Bennett and Borradaile each en-
tered last Wednesday's dual meet
with Cambridge-South Dorchester
and Mardela to join the rather exclu-
sive 100th win club at Decatur and
an only somewhat larger fraternity
of 100-win wrestlers across the
state and each took care of busi-
ness in short order.
Bennett collected his 100th win

BERLIN Stephen Decatur's
girls' varsity basketball team will
have to wait almost two weeks for a
much-anticipated rematch with Mar-
dela after Tuesday's home game
was postponed due to the snow-
storm, but the disappointment did
little to temper what has been a re-
markable run for the Seahawks.
Decatur's record stands at 10-2
overall and 7-1 in the Bayside Con-
ference, its only conference loss
coming at the hands of Mardela
back on Dec. 11. The Seahawks
battled Mardela neck and neck for
over three quarters before the War-
riors took control in the fourth and
pulled away for the 66-47 win. The
Seahawks were prepared for a re-
match on Tuesday, but the storm
and school cancelations moved the
game back to Feb. 3.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks have
been on a remarkable run since that
early loss to Mardela, their only oth-
er loss coming during a non-confer-
ence game during the Coleman Hol-
iday Tournament hosted by Deca-
tur. Decatur's conference winning
streak now stands at seven includ-
ing a convincing 75-42 win over
Parkside last Thursday. Dayona
Godwin led Decatur with 32 points,
while Erin Florek added 16.
The seven-game win streak in-
cludes victories over Wicomico,
Easton, Pocomoke, Washington,
Snow Hill, Bennett and now Park-
side. The Seahawks were sched-
uled to face Wicomico last night in a
game played too late to be included
in this edition. The Seahawks start-
ed their current win streak following
the loss to Mardela with a 64-30 win
over Wicomico on Dec. 13.

BERLIN Stephen Decatur's
boys' varsity basketball team re-
mained unbeaten in January after a
dramatic 70-68 win over Parkside
last Thursday.
The Seahawks ran their post-hol-
iday break record to 4-0 for the
month of January with a win over
the Rams, but it certainly wasn't
easy. The Seahawks led 19-13 after
one quarter and extended the lead
to 39-30 at the half. The two teams
played a fairly even third quarter
with Decatur outscoring Parkside,
17-15, during the period.
However, the Rams mounted a
big comeback in the fourth quarter,
outscoring the Seahawks, 23-12, to
pull even at 68-68 with time running
down. Decatur's Tyler Hunter then
scored on a lay-up with 10 seconds
left to give the Seahawks a 70-68
win. Hunter led Decatur with 18
points, while Colin Gaynor added
17.The win was the fourth straight
for the Seahawks following the holi-
day break with other victories com-
ing against Washington, Snow Hill
and Bennett.
Decatur's last regular-season
loss came at the hands of county
rival Pocomoke back on Dec. 20.
The Seahawks split two games dur-
ing the Governor's Chal-lenge over
the holiday break.
With the win over Parkside, De-
catur's record now stands at 7-3
with an 8-4 mark including the Gov-
ernor's Challenge games. Tues-
day's game against Mardela was
wiped out by weather and has been
rescheduled for Feb. 3. The Sea-
hawks are scheduled to play Wi-
comico on the road this evening.
