December 27, 2013 The Dispatch/Maryland Coast Dispatch Page 33 OC Offers Free NYE Bus Rides By JOANNE SHRINER STAFF WRITER OCEAN CITY – Following a New Year’s tradition, the Town of Ocean City is providing 24 hours of free bus rides from 6 a.m. on New Year’s Eve to 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day. During last Monday’s Mayor and City Council regular session, the Mayor and Council voted unanimously to approve a 24-hour free bus service on New Year’s Eve once again this year. According to Superintendent of Transportation George Thornes, Obituaries Margaret Cordner Trail BERLIN – On Dec. 22, 2013, Margaret "Peg" Cordner Trail passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Vernon H. Trail, dear aunt of Gary Cordner and Gwen Cordner, and dear cousin of Doris Fordham, Barbara Lee Schriefer and Harry Schriefer. Mrs. Trail served as administrator of Woodlawn Cemetery and New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore and was active in the American Cemetery Association. She enjoyed retirement in Ocean Pines where she was a member of "Swimmin Women" and served as Treasurer of St. Paul's By The Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City. Peg moved to Fairhaven in Sykesville in 2000 where she continued to enjoy aquacize. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Fairhaven Chapel (7200 Third Avenue) Sykesville. Private interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairhaven Residents' Association or Chapel Altar Guild. providing free bus service on New Year’s Eve is included in Ocean City’s Policy and Procedural manual dating back to 1996. “Basically, it is in the interest of public safety to keep everyone safe whether it is pedestrians or someone behind the wheel,” Thornes said. “We provide this service hopefully to curb anything that could happen or might happen.” The buses will be running their normal bus route moving south and north along Coastal Highway within the municipal limits of Ocean City. Buses will be deployed throughout New Year’s Eve and starting at 6 p.m. 12 additional buses will hit the streets to accommodate the night life’s crowds. “We will have enough buses out where we will be increasing the level of service,” Thornes said. Starting at 6 a.m. on New Year’s Eve morning until 6 p.m. that evening buses will be running every 20 minutes; from 6 p.m. until 4 p.m. the buses will be running every 10 minutes; 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. buses will be running every 30 minutes; and after 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day the buses will return to their normal operating schedule running every 40 minutes at $1 per boarding or $3 ride-all-day. He worked in the construction business in Ocean City after relocating here over 30 years ago. He was willing to give a helping hand to anyone. He enjoyed his boat. He is survived by two daughters, Nora Kalista and Nealy KalistaDinger, both of Ohio; a brother, William and his wife, Karen; two sisters, Carol Bromwell and her husband, George, and Frank Canfield, and her husband, Blake; friends, William and Susan Grevey and Michael and Ronnie Grevey; and most of all his close companion of 28 years, Linda Grevey. Any donations in his memory may be made to the Assateague Pony Patrol. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
