Christmas Concert Announced OCParade Set For Saturday
Pine Tones Chorus To Perform
OCEAN CITY – On Friday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m., the Pine Tones Chorus will present a Christmas Concert at Atlantic United Methodist Church on 4th Street in Ocean City. The Pine Tones Chorus includes about 60 singers from Ocean Pines, Ocean City and nearby areas. June Todd is the chorus director and Sandra Coston-Barkley is the accompanist. Peter Stang will be playing flute as an added attraction. Special pieces will have double accompaniment with both the piano and organ. The concert is titled “Traditions of Christmas” and offers a festive musical tour of church bells, sleigh bells, caroling, mistletoe, holly, shepherds, Mary and the Baby in the manger. Cheerful greetings of Merry Christmas and Hallelujah will resound. Classical christmas selections will include O Holy Night, and Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. Fans of show tunes may recognize the theme song from Babes in Toyland and the song Christmas Gifts from the stage version of A Wonderful Life. A special arrangement of Jingle Bells Through the Ages includes visits from the Andrews Sisters in boogie-woogie and an Elvisstyle solo in hard rock. Admission is free and an offering will be received. After the concert, people may enjoy refreshments in the church social hall. The Pine Tones Chorus has been entertaining local audiences in the Ocean Pines and Ocean City areas since 1984. Funding for Pine Tones Chorus activities comes from individual donations and sponsors as well as Choptank Electric Trust, the Worcester County Arts Council, Maryland State Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. These organizations are dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. OCEAN CITY – The 31st Annual Ocean City Christmas Parade marches along Coastal Highway on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. The holiday parade, which starts at 100th Street and marches northbound in the southbound lanes of Coastal Highway to the Gold Coast Mall at 115th Street, will feature more than 80 units, including high school bands, horses, llamas, antique cars and colorful holiday floats. Professional judges will be on hand to review bands and other marching units in nine categories and trophies will be awarded inside the mall following the parade for first, second and third places in each category. To participate in the parade, which is sponsored by the Gold Coast Mall Merchants Association, citizens should call Elaine Jarvis at 410-524-9000. There is no charge to participate. For those simply wishing to spectate, plenty of seating will be located in the parking lot of the Gold Coast Mall. Spectators will not be permitted to watch the parade from the median area of Coastal Highway.
