War On Shore Tourney Underway

Huntingtown, Mount Saint Joseph, Severna Park and St. Mary’s Ryken. Delaware will be represented by Caravel Academy, Middletown, Salesianum, Sussex Tech and Sussex Central. Representing Virginia in the 12th War on the Shore this weekend will be Hickory, Hylton, New Kent, Northampton and Stafford. Avella and Fr. Judge will represent Pennsylvania in the tournament, while West Virginia will be represented by Wheeling Park. For host Decatur, which is expected to be as strong as ever this year, the annual tournament often serves as an early barometer for the season. Last year, Great Bridge took first place with 178 points, while Archbishop Spalding was second with 175 and Wheeling Park was third with 153. Host Decatur finished in a tie for 11th overall with 84 points.
BERLIN – Stephen Decatur’s 12th Annual War on the Shore wrestling tournament got underway today at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center for the first of two days for the event with some of the top high school wrestling programs in the mid-Atlantic converging on the area for the two-day event. The War on the Shore tournament features some of the best high school wrestling programs in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. Typically about 20 teams compete in the tournament, which got underway today with a full day of preliminary matches and concludes on Saturday culminating with championships in each weight class. Representing Maryland in the tournament this weekend will be host Stephen Decatur, Archbishop Curley, Gonzaga,
Local Wrestlers Succeed In Early Events

WEST OCEAN CITY – The Eastern Shore Intensive Wrestling Club, based in West Ocean City, has competed in several early season tournaments throughout the fall and has brought home more than its share of championship hardware. The Eastern Shore Intensive Wrestling Club, under the direction of Coach Keith Tobin and his staff, provides young grapplers in the area with training and mentoring all year long in an effort to provide them with a foundation for future success. The club has participated in numerous tournaments already through the month of November as preliminary events for the upcoming season with great success already.
At the Delaware Fall Classic “Pre-Season Beast of the East” tournament, ESIWC’s Jagger Clapsadle finished first in his weight class. At the MSWA Mike TylerMontgomery County Tournament, Anthony Caruso took first in his weight class and the ESIWC also won the trophy for the most falls in a tournament in the quickest amount of time. At the Cavalier Holiday Tournament, Noah Reho and Clapsadle took first in their respective divisions, while Nico D’Amico took second and Alex Koulikov brought home a third. Kevin Bowne took first in his division at the Virginia Beach Nationals “Battle for the Belt,” and also finished third at the annual Bethlehem Fall Classic tournament in Pennsylvania.

OCEAN CITY – The week-long 1st Annual Ocean City Marlin Club Rockfish Tournament gets underway on Sunday with a captains meeting and registration with the fishing action set to start on Monday. The Marlin Club’s first-ever rockfish tournament will run from this Sunday to Sunday, December 15, with six full fishing days all next week. As the name of the tournament implies, rockfish will be the primary species targeted along with red drum and bluefish. The top three heaviest fish in each category
will win awards and federal minimum sizes apply for each species. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The event gets started with a captains meeting on Sunday, followed by six full days of fishing from Monday to Sunday, Dec. 15. Weighins will be held each day from 1-4 p.m. at Ake Marine in West Ocean City. The tournament concludes with an awards banquet next Sunday. Teams can fish from charter boats or from the beach.
