The victim was able to provide WCBI detectives with registration information from the suspect vehicle and a check revealed the truck was registered to Kyle Joseph Owens, 20, of Ocean City. WCBI detectives then conducted a check of local pawn shops for any record of Owens’ name and discovered that on Feb. 16, Owens had sold 345 pounds of brass to a local scrap yard. WCBI detectives responded to the scrap yard and made contact with the yard manager, who told police the brass Owens sold was a five-blade propeller, which was later determined to be the one stolen from the victim. The scrap yard manager also told detectives Owens had also scrapped a rudder at the same time the propeller was scrapped. WCBI detectives met with Owens. During the interview, Owens admitted to taking the propeller and the rudder. This week in District Court, Owens pleaded guilty to one count of theft from $10,000 to under $100,000. Empty Keg Thief Nabbed OCEAN CITY – A Millsboro, Del. man was charged with theft this week after being identified as the suspect in a series of thefts of empty beer kegs in the north end of the resort over the last several months. Starting in July and running through November, the OCPD received several reports involving thefts of empty beer kegs from bars and restaurants in the north end of Ocean City. The empty kegs were stolen from the rear areas of each bar and restaurant victimized during the scheme. During the investigation, OCPD officers made contact with the Rehoboth Beach Police Department detectives who shared information about a similar theft scheme being carried out in JASON W. that resort. Working WILZ with Rehoboth Beach Police detectives, the OCPD was able to determine the suspect, identified as Jason W. Wilz, 33, of Millsboro, allegedly committed the thefts in both resort areas. This week, the OCPD charged Wilz with second- and fourth-degree burglary, two counts of theft from $1,000 to $10,000, two counts of theft scheme from $1,000 to $10,000 and three counts of theft under $1,000. Wilz is currently in custody at the Sussex Correctional Institute in Georgetown for similar charges related to the Rehoboth Beach thefts. Ocean City Police are taking the opportunity to remind local bars and restaurants to take the proper precautions with empty beer kegs. Owners are reminded to secure the kegs by putting them in a locked cage, securing them with a chain, or keeping them in a secure location within the establishment. Cops & Courts Morris was arrested after a threeweek undercover operation during with detectives made purchases of heroin from the suspect. OCPD officers arrested Morris in the area of 58th Street and Coastal Highway without incident. At the time of his arrest, Morris was found to be in possession of 39 bags of heroin, a small amount of crack cocaine and over $300 in currency. A second suspect, identified as TIMMY MORRIS Matthew Kyle Anderson, 23, of Selbyville, was also arrested at the time after being found in possession of Suboxone. Morris has been charged with heroin possession, heroin distribution and heroin possession with intent to distribute. Anderson has been charMATTHEW ged with possession ANDERSON of Suboxone. Both were seen by a District Court Commissioner. Morris was transferred to the Worcester County Jail on a $50,000 bond, while Anderson was released on his own recognizance. extended his hand for a “fist pound.” When the victim extended his arm for the greeting, a second suspect stabbed him in the arm with a knife. Both suspects then attempted to take items from the victim’s pockets, but the victim resisted and the suspects fled on foot. Nothing was taken from the victim, who was treated at PRMC for his injury. Probation, Fine In Theft WEST OCEAN CITY – An Ocean City man arrested on theft charges last February after swiping a propeller and rudder from a boat in West Ocean City and later pawning the stolen goods at a pawn shop pleaded guilty this week and was fined and placed on probation. Last Feb. 19, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Sunset Ave. in West Ocean City for a reported theft. The deputy met with a victim who reported that sometime over the weekend, an unknown suspect had stolen the propeller and rudder from his boat. The victim told police the propeller was about 48 inches in diameter and made of brass, and had an estimated worth in the range of $8,000 to $10,000. The victim told police the rudder was around three feet wide and four feet tall and the estimated cost of replacing it would be in a range of $2,000 to $3,000. The next day on Feb. 20, the victim informed the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) that surveillance video recorded on Feb. 19 showed a pick-up truck with a white cap back up to the location where the boat was stored and from where the propeller and rudder were stolen. The victim further told Guilty Pleas In Vacant Motel Burglary OCEAN CITY – Two men arrested in September on burglary charges after Ocean City Police observed them coming out of a vacant midtown motel which has since been demolished pleaded guilty last week to trespassing and each was fined $500 and placed on probation for one year. Around 8 p.m. on September 4, Ocean City Police responded to the Ocean Voyager Motel on 32nd Street for a reported breaking and entering in progress. The Ocean Voyager was vacant and has since been demolished to make way for a new development. OCPD officers responded and observed two men, later identified as Patrick Michael Herrmann, 25, of Lutherville, Md. and Jonathan McGovern Boeri, 18, of Phoenix, Md., exiting a unit in the motel and placed them under arrest for burglary. During the investigation, officers learned Herrmann and Boeri had allegedly broken into at least five other units and attempted to steal numerous items with an approximate value of $35. Each was charged with burglary at the time. Knife Attack In Salisbury SALISBURY – Salisbury Police this week are looking for suspects wanted in connection with a stabbing in the area of N. Church Street and Naylor Street early last Saturday. Around 1:10 a.m. last Saturday, Salisbury Police responded to the area of N. Church Street and Naylor Street for a reported assault with a knife. The investigation revealed the victim was walking on Baker Street when he was approached by two African-American males. One of the suspect’s allegedly said “What’s up?” to the victim and Alleged Dealer Busted OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Police narcotics officers last week concluded a three-week investigation into heroin distribution in the resort with the arrest of one alleged dealer and another man who was with him at the time. Last Tuesday, the Ocean City Police Narcotics Unit, with the help of the Special Enforcement Unit, concluded a heroin distribution investigation with the arrest of Timmy Morris, 30, of no fixed address.
