New Beach Patrol Home Included FROM PAGE 20 Bowl Skate Park and expansion of new skate park facilities in the 3rd Street area are based on designs developed by the skate park design consultant in FY07. The skate park was last rebuilt in 1998. The design firm of Wally Hollyday Design has been contracted by the town to prepare plans for a 17,000-square-foot expansion with additional equipment and furnishings. The skate park is a customer supported recreation amenity with revenue generated from admission fees Another highlighted project is the renovation of the downtown recreation complex. The town retained a planning consultant in FY07 to develop a new master plan for the Downtown Recreation Complex from Philadelphia Avenue to Chicago Avenue between 3rd and 4th streets. Construction documents have been completed that divide the improvements into two phases of redevelopment and improvements beginning with the 3rd Street area around the skate park. The second phase will focus on improvement to the bayfront block. The compiled project will be known as Bayside Park. A new beach patrol headquarters is proposed to be a 10,620-squarefoot facility to include offices, meeting/training room and equipment storage. The patrol is currently headquartered in the old police and District Court facilities downtown. These facilities are in disrepair, undersized and below the minimum flood elevation. There is a need for a modern facility and the patrol has requested to remain downtown due to logistical issues. All in all there are $7 million worth of projects proposed to be funded by general fund supported bonds that includes, the Downtown Recreation Complex for $2.4 million and the Skate Park for $548,000, beach patrol headquarters for $2 million, the Public Safety Building roof replacement for $630,000, the service center roof replacement for $240,000 and canal dredging for two years for $1 million. Also, the convention center food tax supported bond includes the new auditorium project for $8.3 million, user fee supported bond includes the construction of Hanger K at the Ocean City Municipal Airport for $850,000, and wastewater fee supported bond includes effluent disinfection system upgrade for $500,000. “It is a lot to absorb … a lot of the items we have been talking about for a long time. They are all important to the whole town and it is something that we are going to have to sit and down and figure out how we are going to fund. Ocean City doesn’t run this way by accident. It is done by proper planning,” Council President Lloyd Martin said. 2 RESERVED “We are a dedicated team of professionals, ready to assist you in your investment.
