We believe that the proper attention to health and safety of our employees, subcontractors, customers and the communities in which we work is non-negotiable. We have a long-standing positive health and safety record that is underpinned by our corporate objective to keep people safe every day, as well as our Target Zero campaign. Our activities interact with the environment across all areas of the business, whether it is litter picking in a city or installing new LED streetlights, we need to ensure that the work we do does not damage the environment. We therefore employ a number of specialist ecologists to help provide advice on the work we carry out. We also partner with regional conservation groups, such as Natural England and the Wildlife and Woodland Trusts, to share expertise and provide support on projects to enhance and protect the local environment. Carbon management is also a key focus for us and we continually seek to understand the impacts of our business and try to reduce them. At both a corporate and contract level we measure our carbon footprint and set annual reduction targets. Delivering vital public and regulated services across almost every area of the UK, means we have a huge impact on the communities we serve. We therefore actively invest in our communities and proactively work to develop skills and employability with the long term unemployed, young people and armed service leavers. We support local and small businesses and engage with a number of charities and community projects through allowing our employees one paid day a year to support an initiative of their choice. We are committed to ensuring that 3% of employees are enrolled onto graduate and apprenticeship schemes 17
