Dear Prairie School Donors
and Volunteers,
Our 2011-2012 Report of Giving is a celebration of the
time and resources given by the many individuals and
organizations that support The Prairie School.
The Prairie School Board remains focused on providing
Mark Murphy, our Headmaster, with the resources and
environment necessary to implement his vision and to
retain, hire and develop the outstanding faculty and
administrators who are so critical to our school's success.
Prairie is also fortunate to have a dedicated group of
volunteers to direct us along the way. I would like to thank
Chris Kann, Chair of the Annual Fund, for another year of
unprecedented giving. Once again exceeding their goal,
the Annual Fund team raised $422,511 in contributions.
Our school depends on nancial gifts to sustain innovative
teaching, facility improvements, and faculty professional
development and enrichment. On behalf of the faculty
and sta , the board and our students, I send a tremendous
thank you to the Annual Fund team and every donor who
participated in the 2011-2012 campaign.
To ensure that a Prairie education is available to as many
students as possible, two main fundraising events are held
each year: the Prairie Golf Classic and the Prairie Premiere.
As the result of many meetings, countless hours of planning,
and dedication from two teams of over 100 volunteers
combined, $256,000 was raised in support of the Prairie
School Scholarship Fund. A day lled with lunch, 18 holes
of golf and a lovely dinner reception made the Golf Classic
an occasion to remember. The sparkling décor, incredible
auction items and fantastic entertainment culminated into
a magical evening at "Believe." Thank you to John Gittings,
our Golf Classic Chair, and to the entire Premiere Leadership
Team. Your guidance led us to another successful year.
In the spring of 2011, Prairie was awarded a $250,000
Leadership Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation.
Funds from this grant went to support the Charles W. and
Jennifer C. Johnson Center for Developing Excellence, a
four-week summer program dedicated to higher learning
in math and science. In July of 2013, the Center will be
fully operational and will welcome 120 6th, 7th, 8th and
9th grade students from Southeastern Wisconsin. These
young minds will be deeply engaged in experiential
education leading to a mastery of math and science:
subjects that provide a necessary foundation for post-
secondary, university, and graduate study in engineering,
the hard sciences, business, and medicine. The past year's
participation has demonstrated how necessary a program
like the Center is in our community, as over 75% of students
are from Racine and Kenosha schools. We are fortunate to
provide the teachers, facilities, and resources to grow our
future leaders.
We are grateful for your generosity. You lead by example,
and in doing so, forge a path of continued success for our
school. The quality of education and the abundance of
academic and extracurricular opportunities we are able
to provide our students are a result of the commitment
demonstrated through your continued giving.
Imogene Johnson
Chairman of The Board
