The annual event gets underway today with a Legends’ Party at the Pirate’s Galley. The centerpiece of the weekend-long festival, however, is the 13th Annual Longboard Team Challenge, set for tomorrow on the beach at the Castle in the Sand on 37th Street. Last year, 16 teams from all over the country converged on Ocean City for the annual longboard team surfing challenge to compete for the Tiki Trophy in a contest that lasted all day along with other beach activities, giveaways and radio remotes. The weekend festival ends with an “expression session” on the beach at the Castle in the Sand on Sunday from 8 a.m.-noon. Live Racing Returns To Ocean Downs By SHAWN J. SOPER SPORTS EDITOR BERLIN – Live racing returns tonight to Ocean Downs, the historic racetrack turned casino on Route 589 in Berlin, with the first of 48 days of standard-bred harness racing throughout the summer. The live racing meet at the Casino at Ocean Downs gets started tonight with the first post-time of 7:20. Live racing will be held at the historic harness track in Berlin each Thursday and Friday and Sunday and Monday throughout the summer, with the only exception being Thursday, July 4. The racing action gets started each night at 7:20. The live racing meet concludes on Sunday, Sept. 8. Seahawk Summer Basketball CampSlated By SHAWN J. SOPER SPORTS EDITOR BERLIN – The 4th Annual Seahawk Summer Basketball Camp, hosted by the current and former boys’ varsity coaches, is scheduled for June 17-20 at the Stephen Decatur. Led by current varsity coach Mark Engle and former head varsity coach B.J. Johnson, the annual camp is open to boys and girls in grades 3-12 in the area. Themed “Take Your Game to the Next Level,” the camp will focus on fundamentals and individual instruction for the players along with team play, competitive games, contests and prizes. The camp will be held each day from June 17-20 from 9 a.m.-noon with the sessions broken down into groups based on age and ability. Both Engle and Johnson have vast coaching resumes in and around the Delmarva area. As a special addition this year, the guest speaker will be Salisbury University men’s basketball head coach Josh Merkel. The cost is a relatively low $80 per player in advance and $90 for those registering at the door. The price includes a camp T-shirt and a basketball for each player to keep.
