Timothy P. Hofman
OCEAN CITY – Timothy Patrick Hofman, age 52, died on May 29, 2013 at his home. Born the seventh of nine children, he was raised on the colonial Gittings Ha Ha estate in Brookeville, Md. He was the son of Gloria Ann Haverty Hofman and the late Leo Charles Hofman, and is survived by his wife, Florence Hofman, and his brothers, Leo “Fritz” Hofman, John C. Hofman, Thomas M. TIMOTHY Hofman, all HOFMAN of Ocean City, G. Randy Hofman and James B. Hofman, both of Ocean Pines, and sisters, Cathie H. Rocklin of Ocean City, and Bonnie Hart of Front Royal, Va. He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis G. Hofman. Musically gifted from an early age, Tim had been an altar boy and music coordinator at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olney, Md. All through his life he continued to play in churches. He became a professional pianist, classically trained under Roger Priese of the National Symphony in Washington, D.C. As a concert pianist, he performed all over the United States, including Las Vegas and cruise ships, and toured in 24 countries. After spending his formative years in California, he returned to the East Coast in the early 1990s to make his home in Ocean City. He enjoyed writing lyrics and composing music. He also loved building and architecture and being a landlord. He had attended Salisbury University. In high school, he was a national medalist in Greco Wrestling. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 5, at Atlantic United Methodist Church on 4th Street and Baltimore Avenue in Ocean City. Rev. Norman Poultney and Rev. Dick Sands officiated. A visitation was held at the Burbage Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. A donation in his memory may be made to the Ocean City Paramedics Foundation P.O. Box 3099, Ocean City, Md., 21843. Charles M. Smedley
SEAFORD – Charles M. Smedley, 90, of Seaford, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, Del. Born Jan. 26, 1923 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late James and Mary Figgins Smedley. Mr. Smedley, a veteran of the Marine Corps, served in the Pacific campaign during World War II. He was an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Company for many years. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his outgoing personality and wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean C. Smedley; a son, Kenneth C. Smedley (Nancy); a daughter, Joyce S. Ryan; two step-children, Joyce L. Stark (Robert) and Larry McCaddin (Holly); 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara M. Smedley, and son, Wayne M. Smedley. A memorial service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church in Berlin at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bethany United Methodist Church, 8648 Stephen Decatur Highway, Berlin, Md. 21811 or Vitas Hospice, 1016 N.
