Students’ Yard Sale To Benefit Autism Research
SALISBURY – Salisbury University event planning students will host a yard sale to benefit Autism Speaks from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, on the Henson Hall Mall (rain location: Guerrieri University Center, Wicomico Room). Students are seeking gently used clothing and home goods to sell at the event. Items may be donated at the sale until 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. “This is the perfect opportunity to clean out your closet for a great cause,” said Morgan Hoey, part of the student group organizing the event. The CDC Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that one in 88 American children are on the autism spectrum. Autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the United States; yet, less than 1 percent of funding from the National Institutes of Health is allocated to autism research, Hoey said. An Autism Speaks table at the sale provides information about autism, the organization and how others may help. Cash, credit cards and Gull Cards are accepted at the sale. Monetary donations also are welcome. Items not purchased by 5 p.m. will be donated to local charities. For more information, contact Hoey at mh25146@gulls.salisbury.edu. Shoppers also are invited to RSVP for the event on Facebook at www.facebook.com/events/1066798 76195756/.
