promote our work and whom we rightly regard
as part of the Listening Books community. We
are always especially conscious of our debt to
the many publishers who give us rights to their
titles and thereby enable our many members to
enjoy history, thrillers, romance, comedy, and
classics--from Homer to Heaney, much missed
famous Seamus. On behalf of members, I
would finally like to thank everyone in the team
at Lant Street. We have an exceptionally united
cadre of committed and imaginative staff.
We measure as much as we can. We owe it to
donors particularly to rigorously evaluate the
impact of our service--but statistics are a blunt

achievement, maybe, is the image of a child
grinning as she listens to Roald Dahls The Twits
or a member who has suffered a stroke waking
in the night and having a companionable voice
reading a favourite Wodehouse.
Our service
Whichever format or service option a member
chooses, our aim remains the same: to make
literature for learning or leisure available to
those in the UK who struggle to hold a book or
read the printed word due to an illness, disability
or learning difficulty.
Due to the generosity of charitable trusts and
companies (such as The Freemasons Grand
Charity who kindly donated £4000), individual
donors and the kindness of publishers, we have
created a vast collection of audiobooks which
we are able to make accessible across a range
of formats: downloads, MP3 CDs and internet
streaming. We are proud to also serve those in
need of audiobooks further through hospice and
educational communities and would like to take
this opportunity to outline these different
services.
