Visiting In Vashti
Hello Friends! The saying for the week is: “Do not resent growing old; many are denied that privilege”. I know that it may be a little late for offering it up but I do hope that all of you had a very Merry Christmas with plenty of time for your family and friends. As per usual the Spechts spent a quiet time at home sharing in the joy of just being together for a last time while the girls are still at home and not off away at college. We did make it to the candlelight service on Christmas Eve at the Vashti Methodist Church with many of our neighbors. It was wonderful getting to sing “Silent Night” by candlelight before returning home to enjoy the movie “White Christmas” before falling asleep listening for hoof beats on the roof. It was also a joy to see the remodeling work that is progressing nicely. The tin ceiling has been painted and just looks incredible. I am looking forward to seeing the finished sanctuary. Hopefully when you read this you will have enjoyed ringing in the New Year in a joyous way. The past year has been quick to pass so I am hoping that maybe this year will slow down just a little so we can all get the most from it. As for New Year resolutions, I am still trying to remember if I fulfilled last year’s before starting a new list. The Bellevue basketball

knee along with the torn ACL tendon. I hope that she will have as speedy a recovery as Kayla had with hers. The team is still missing her ball handling skills. Ava Lawson called a few weeks back to relay to me that Verne had taken a tumble which fractured his hip. Verne had surgery the following day and is back home by now. As bad as a fracture might be, the doctor did inform him that if you had to break your hip he had done so in the least damaging way. This should mean that his recovery should be easier. Ava was just ready to get him home and Verne was definitely looking forward to a home cooked meal. I do want to mention the passing of one of our neighbors. Fred Howard went to be with his Lord on December 20th. I had not heard of his passing till several days after his funeral but was saddened by his death. He was a devoted husband and industrious farmer who contributed to this community in so many ways. Fred was a wonderful man who will be missed by all. Kenneth Walton, my fatherin-law and Katie and Kayla’s grandfather, passed away on December the 23rd. As I had written previously, his cancer had returned and he spent his last months being with his daughters and family. He passed quietly this past Monday with his daughters by his side reminding him of all their childhood memories. Please keep Leah Teachout, Jodie Donahue, and the nine grandchildren he leaves behind in your prayers during this time of grieving. In your prayers this week please remember Josie Wise, Kay and Earnest Perkins, Mary Musgrove, Grover Watkins, Dewey Staley, Shirley Stovall, Sue Phillips, Wanda Molsbee, Trey Spivey, JoAnn Spivey, Betty Jo Hatfield, Bill Bartlett, B.J. Tate, Betty Allen, Verne Lawson, Garrett Nunn, G-Ma, Philip Lawson. Please remember all those from our area actively serving in the military at this time.
squads traveled to Windthorst to take part in a tournament last Friday and Saturday. The Lady Eagles progressed into the consolation game against Henrietta but came up short in what many felt was a poorly called game. The ladies were still in contention at the half but could not keep the pace in the second half. They are back home regrouping for a district game against Prairie Valley this Friday. With no other tournaments they can now just stick to concentrating on the district schedule ahead. I do need to add that Destiny Watkins’ surgery went well on Christmas Eve. The doctors needed to repair some additional cartilage in her
