Bowie Livestock Commission
The College Singers and College Wind Ensemble from North Central Texas College will team up on Dec. 6th for a special concert that is sure to put everyone in attendance in the holiday spirit. The “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas” concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 6th on the main stage of the First State Bank Center for the Performing Arts on the NCTC Gainesville campus. The College Singers will start out the show with a traditional concert featuring Christmas classics like “What Child Is This,” “Silent Night,” and Joy to the World.” The Wind Ensemble will then take the stage and will be performing traditional concert music as well as a couple of Christmas songs to keep the theme with the College Singers. Titles include “Winter on Emerald Bay,” “Symphony No. 40,” “Fanfare for the Third Planet,” “Fantasia on the Dargason,” and “Last Ride of the Pony Express.” Their Christmas selections include “Holiday Bells” and “Christmas Travelogue.” “This serves as the only formal concert during the semester for the Wind Ensemble so that is the reason behind the combining of traditional and Christmas band literature,” band director Marty Kobuck said. The College Singers will then wrap-up the show with some pop classics like “White Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” and a song called “Merry Christmas” from the movie “Home Alone 2.” “The first part of the show will be more like a stand-up concert, but the final part will be more like a mini-musical,” said Shane Studdard, the director of the College Singers. “In fact, the entire stage will be white. The singers will be wearing white, the set pieces are white, there’s white snowflakes, white lamps, a white gazebo. And all of the songs we are singing will mention snow.” Admission to the concert is free, but donations for the scholarship fund will be accepted.
