He exemplifies the qualities that we strive to teach kids at Bowie Elementary. In the last couple of weeks, we have had numerous students practicing diligently to represent our school at the UIL Story Telling competition. Jacob worked hard and dedicated his time to making the team. On the day the coach had to inform the students who would be on the team and who would not, Jacob made the team. However, one of his classmates did not. Both boys were moved with emotion, as were many other students striving to make the team. That night Jacob had a conversation with his parents. He felt that he should sacrifice his spot on the team for his friend. The next morning, Jacob had that conversation with Mrs. Cage and she said she would need to check and make sure that was okay. Mrs. Cage asked me my thoughts and I told her I wanted to make sure with Jacob’s parents that this was a decision in which they agreed. I asked that the Neffs discuss again and make a final decision. They did and Jacob gave up his spot on the team for his classmate. That type of selflessness is not common in our day today and I want to recognize a great kid, Jacob Neff. We have recently upgraded a software that we use that allows students to interact with content through the computer and a white board. Now, we can use the classroom iPads to interact with various content as well. Mrs. Holland has been excited about using the software to help her students. The students have been excited and engaged in the wonderful experiences that Mrs. Holland has created for her students. Bowie Elementary is blessed to have great teachers like Mrs. Brittany Holland!
