This scholarship is reserved for students planning careers in education. It is intended to encourage promising young scholars into the cause of a great public school education for Texas students. The 2017 MCRSP Honors Luncheon was celebrated in the Montague Courthouse Annex Community Room, May 2. A total of forty one members, retiring and active teachers, administrators, para-professionals, and at least 3 future teachers attended. Scholarship Chair, Janet McMurray, introduced those three winning scholars. Joslin Wadlow, Nocona, who has her heart set on a degree in Education to teach math. She plans to attend Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls. Lexi Hutson, Bowie, who has a passion for FFA and Ag Education and plans to pursue those at Tarleton State University, Stephenville. Kaitlyn Forrester, Forestburg, who will be majoring in Education and Special Education Certification, beginning locally with North Central Texas College. Retiring educators introduced were Jim Mahaffey, M.I.S.D., and Larry Lemons, S.J.I.S.D. Jeanie Stark, B.I.S.D., was also reported to be retiring. Thanks to the dedication of members and community support for the Scholarship BBQ fundraisers in the fall, retirees have been able to offer three scholarships for the last four years. The amount also has increased, from $1,000 to $1,500 each for 2 years. Members of the Bellevue FFA chapter traveled to Huntsville, April 28th, to compete in the state Agricultural Technology & Mechanical Systems and Farm Business Management Career Development Events. Career Development Events (CDEs) build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. Approximately 14,600 students began the statewide tournament in 28 different events which reflect classroom instruction in technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Bellevue FFA placed 17th in the Agricultural Technology & Mechanical Systems contest. Team members included: Michael Hanson, Joe Moore, Jake Hamilton, and Breannah Malaer Bellevue FFA placed 22nd in the Farm Business Management contest. Team members included: Trey Terry, Trista Lawson, Rebecca Maddin, Caleb Obermier. The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 119,000 active FFA members. Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources programs teach skills in leadership, career development and personal growth.
