This year the Festival is starting June 18th, Sunday, at 6 a.m. with the Bass Tournament at Amon Carter Lake. It has been several years since the conditions have allowed this event. Monday, June 19th, the County Line Cowboy Church will host an added money 4D Barrel Race. This will give an opportunity to make a run in the arena before the run during JBD rodeo later that week. Expos at 5:30 Race at 7:30 p.m. The Youth Rodeo will be held June 20-21 with speed events on Tuesday and roping on Wednesday. Mutton Bustin starts the events each night at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge at the gate to cheer on our upcoming rodeo stars. Thursday, June 22nd will be the first night of the UPRA/TCRA Sanctioned Rodeo starting at 7:30 p.m. Slack will follow the main performance. Friday, June 23rd will kick-off with the Jim Bowie Queen and Little Miss horsemanship contest at the Jim Bowie Rodeo Grounds. The 42 tournament will be held again at the Bowie Sr. Citizens Center. During the performance that night, there will be a FFA Calf Scramble. Teams will be made up of FFA Chapters in our county. There will be 4 person teams of which one must be a girl. Top pay-out to the first 3 teams with all teams receiving a minimum of $100. So much is going on Saturday. The Indian Artifacts Show will be held at the Bowie Community Room in downtown Bowie at 9 a.m. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and will go thru downtown Bowie. Following the parade at 11a.m, there will be a hamburger feed at the Bowie Community Center next to the Rodeo Grounds. Riding Clubs that participate in the Parade eat for free. The charge for anyone else is just $5. The Quilt Show will be held at the same time. Children’s fun activities start with a Kiddie Pet Parade at 12 p.m. followed by a Terrapin Race at 1 p.m. and Frog Jumping at 1:30 p.m. There is also free admission to the City of Bowie Swimming Pool starting at 1 p.m. Saturday night Rodeo Performance will be loaded with activities. The top 3 winners of the Mutton Bustin contest from Thursday and Friday night performance will compete in a “Ride-Off”. Top two riders will be awarded a buckle. Crowning of the New 2017 Jim Bowie Days Queen and Little miss will take place. New entertainment this year will be “Mini Bronc” competition. There will be 6 riders trying for first place. You don’t want to miss this! Immediately following the Rodeo, there will be a dance with Steve Bounds and Simply Honky Tonk Band. Admission is $10 at the door. Jim Bowie Days Association to Add New Event Jim Bowie Days Association is proud to announce the addition of a barrel race to the lineup of events. This will be a 4D, added money barrel race hosted by County Line Cowboy Church at the arena in Bowie. It will be held Monday, June 19th with exhibitions to start at 5:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Race starts at 7:30 p.m.. This will give everyone an opportunity to make a run in the arena before their run during JBD rodeo later that week. Entry fee: $25; Office fee: $5 (per person, not per horse); Exhibitions: $5. 75% payback plus $250 added money.
