The last day for bus, lorry and
car and trailer driving tests at
Taunton Goods Vehicle Testing
Station (GVTS) will be Friday 30
August 2013.
DSA is working hard to find
a permanent site for lorry,
bus and B+E (car with trailer)
practical driving tests.
In the meantime, DSA will
be providing extra vocational
tests at Exeter and Bristol, and
offering B+E trailer tests on
the motorcycle manoeuvring
area at Taunton multi-purpose
test centre from Monday 1 July
(following a successful trial at
Gloucester). They will also allow
two driver training companies
in the Taunton area to host
testing for their customers on
their own sites. You may also
be able to use your own site to
provide practical tests.
Approved training bodies can
now order and pay for DL196
certificates (CBT certificates)
online, but you will need to
register to use the service to
order and pay for DL196 books.
You can register by visiting
the website (www.gov.uk/cbt-
certificates). From there you
enter your username which
should be `ATB' followed by
your ATB number (e.g. ATB736),
and create a password.
When you place your
order you'll receive an email
confirmation so you'll know the
order has gone through. Your
order should then be sent out
within 5 working days.
The DSA has recommended
you use a business email
address as this will be saved on
the system for your ATB.
You can still use the DL196
order line Monday to Friday
between 10.00 and 16.00.
From 17 June 2013, the DSA
won't be sent a copy of your
criminal record check when
you've applied for it. This means
you'll be the only person who
gets a copy of the certificate.
The DSA will still see an
electronic record of whether
your criminal record check
has anything recorded on it or
not, but won't be able to see
anything that is actually listed.
Send your certificate to the
DSA, who will write to you to
ask you to post your certificate
if it has anything listed on it.
You must send the original
you can't send a copy and
this will be returned to you.
Your application to become an
approved driving instructor,
renew your registration or re-
register could be delayed if you
don't send your certificate as
soon as the DSA asks for it.
You don't need to send
your certificate unless DSA
tells you to.

DSA record check changes
The award-winning young
driver specialist, Young
Marmalade, is helping learner
drivers make big savings on
their insurance.
Provisional Marmalade offers
car insurance which covers
learner drivers practicing in the
cars of their friends and family
whilst under supervision.
Should any claims occur, they
will not have to compromise a
no-claims bonus.
Over a million provisional
driving licences were granted
in 2012, and the DSA has said
that alongside professional
tuition 22 hours or more of
private practice would be
optimal for learner drivers.
Provisional Marmalade can
be arranged monthly and
offers fully comprehensive
protection from £3 a day.
