Which do you prefer, automatic
or manual cars?...Discuss!
ADI CAR CHOICE: FORUM
As always, we ask the questions, and you post your thoughts up on the forum. A good
selection of your responses will be posted within our next issue.
Last issue we had some great responses to the
forum regarding our question "Should elderly
drivers still be on the road?" We hope this next
question could spark just as much interest and
debate on the forums.
In this issue we have looked at the differing
issues for automatic and manual driving
instructors, and how specialists can take
advantage of new markets and grown their
business.
But what are you thoughts on `Automatic vs.
Manual'? Some simple ideas could be:
Have you noticed a difference in clientele
between the different transmission options?
How did you find the transition between
automatic and manual?
Do you have both manual and automatic cars,
and offer lessons in both? How does this work
for you in terms of cost and the split between
clients?
Which do you prefer automatic or manual?
As always, we encourage you to start your own
debates and questions. We always like to start off
on a few points we have discussed.
LAST MONTHS QUESTION:
SHOULD ELDERLY DRIVERS STILL BE
ON THE ROAD?
With thanks again to all the ADIs and PDIs
who took the time to reply on our forum.
I wouldn't want the age of a driver to be the
only factor in allowing someone to retain
their licence. Plenty of older people are fit
and healthy. Look at Brian Blessed, shinning
up Everest in his mid 70s or Joanna Lumley,
pushing 70 and sharper than many people
half her age.

Of course they should sill be on the road.
Just as young drivers, middle-aged drivers,
male drivers, female drivers and people of all
nationalities should be on the road too.
One group is just as good or bad as the
other, it's the bad drivers who should not be
on the roads.
Over a days driving on all types of road we
all see many terrible and dangerous examples
of driving and not all by the same age group
or gender.
All drivers mut not be punished for a few
as happens with young drivers and crazy
insurance premiums.
- Silverblue
It is worth considering the impact on
insurance premiums if all elderly drivers were
forced off the road at a certain age. The
insurance companies make serious money
out of these drivers who hardly ever claim,
and for minor amounts when they do. If
these profits were lost, they would have to be
recouped from the rest of us -
