Showell To Hold Fall Fest Saturday
BERLIN – Showell Elementary will host its annual PTA-sponsored Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, on school grounds from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event is open to the public. Tickets will be sold on site for activities, rides, games, and a raffle. The fun-filled festival includes a variety of activities such as a dunk tank with Showell staff members, cake walk, moon bounce, and a bake sale, as well as fire truck and hay rides. Carnival-like games include Frankenstein football toss, sack races, fortune teller, haunted hallway, and lollipop tree, with prizes awarded to the winners. Raffle drawings will be held for gift packages that include rounds of golf, water park tickets, and gift certificates for restaurant meals, retail purchases, and boating and parasailing excursions. Tickets cost $5 for a book of 6 and can be purchased prior to or on the day of the festival. You need not be present to win. Proceeds from the festival will be used by Showell Elementary School’s PTA to help fund school-sponsored activities or needs such as field trips, student agendas, and visiting authors. Come casual or dressed in your favorite costume and enjoy the festivities.
. . Weekly Events Help Non-Profits
FROM PAGE 34 have a lot of programs and services that are local.” Braniecki agreed and noted that the Pink Ribbon Classic has boomed from a single event 17 years ago to 10 events this year, with a large amount of secondary support from independent donations such as Burley’s guest bartender program. “That’s how we started, as a grassroots movement to help cancer patients,” she said. Brushmiller is hopeful that this year’s guest bartending season will be a fruitful one in terms of generating charitable donations. It’s a popular event for both customers and area bartenders who are invited in from all of Burley’s business partners. “We do guest bartenders from all of our accounts so if you sell Burley Oak, we have you out and then we do a big guest bartender night on Monday nights,” he said. Following OC Wasabi’s guest night, Bull on the Beach generated about $2,500 to go toward autism research and support. Guest bartenders for charity will be at Burley Oak every Monday for the season.
