Tasmania
A WORlD APART, NOT A WORlD AWAy
Tasmania is small in size, yet big on experiences. It has a
wonderful blend of history, architecture and wilderness.
With beautiful fine food, cool climate wines and some of
the freshest seafood in the country. Hobart has come of age
with its contemporary art, culture and dining scene and is
home to a spectacular harbour famous for fishing, sailing and
the annual sydney to Hobart race. Once a week Hobart
hosts the salamanca Markets which are an explosion of
colour and flavour showcasing local produce and modern
artworks. Hobart also acts as an excellent base to explore
the surrounding area including the historic site of Port Arthur,
Australia's oldest bridge in Richmond or a trip to Bruny Island
with its abundant wildlife and stunning views.
Tasmania's wilderness is talked about throughout the world
and deservedly so as it is the home of some of the most
spectacular World Heritage listed scenery on the planet! Most
famous of all is Cradle Mountain where visitors can spend a
day or a month (or anywhere in between!). experienced hikers
can tackle the 65km overland track or day visitors can canoe,
walk or fish in Australia's deepest freshwater lake.
The Tasmanian devil is well regarded in the state and
there are now many opportunities to see them either in
conservation sanctuaries or in wildlife parks. Although still
found in the wild, the unique little critters are shy and tend to
stay away from people. Their bone-chilling screech gave them
their name when early settlers thought they sounded like
devils in the night.
With breathtaking scenery, gourmet food and award winning
wines and cheese, it's easy to see why Tasmania is a very
popular destination.
