onsidered one of the most populated countries in Africa and the Middle
east, egypt is a transcontinental state situated largely in north Africa
- with its Sinai peninsula forming a land bridge to Southwest Asia and
linking the two continents of Africa and Asia. As a country that has historically
relied heavily on tourism to drive the economy, the 2011 egyptian Revolution -
which resulted in the fall of Hosni Mubarak, former egyptian politician, dictator
and military commander was devastating to egypt's tourism industry. current
figures report the number of visitors in 2011 was 9.8 million, a 33% drop from
the 14.7 million that visited in 2010, prior to the violent and continuing uprising
(central Agency for public Mobilisation And Statistics, 2012).
