Measurement is based on standard size 1 KG dipper ­ volume not
weight.
Desertspoons/tablespoons and teaspoons are proper measuring
spoons.
SUPPLEMENTS:
These are what you need to buy from feedstore or supermarket and
add to feed daily
BREWERS YEAST: 4 level desertspoons...two in the morning and
two in the night feed (for B group vitamins, selenium, phosphorus).
SOYA BEAN MEAL: 2 level dessertspoon morning and same at
night.
COPPER SULPHATE: ½ level teaspoon in NIGHT FEED ONLY
SULPHUR: Also known as yellow dusting sulphur. 1 level
desertspooon morning and night till next test only
WHEATGERM: (FROM SUPERMARKET) 4 heaped dessertspoons
in morning and same again at night.
COARSE BRAN: 1/3 dipper morn and same again at night feed
RICE BRAN: - NOT POLLARD (can use COPRICE pellets) (has
a lot of phosphorous in it ) and have amino acids but are fattening.
Add small amount to start ­ 1/3 dipper morn and night and increase
to 1/2 dipper morning and night. Can add more if you like, this is an
energy feed.
Rice bran oil: (This is from supermarket.) 100 ­ 200 mls depending
on work load
DAILY FEEDING PROGRAM ­
CHANGE GRADUALLY TO AVOID COLIC - 2 FEEDS daily
DAILY FEED PROGRAM working on 1kg size dipper You may alter
amounts of grains and cereals but not the supplements DO NOT
FEED MORE THAN 2.2 kgs GRAINS IN ONE FEED
THIS IS FOR A MORNING FEED AND A NIGHT FEED -
SAME AMOUNT FOR BOTH.
OATEN CHAFF
2 - 5 dipper daily depending on weight.
LUCERNE CHAFF same as oaten chaff
OATS(Optional). Preferably whole. Use only if more energy
required.
WHOLE BARLEY: 1/2 dipper morning and same again at night.
Soak whole barley over night. Just add barley to container, fill with
boiling water and soak overnight. Drain off excess water. Just ensure
this does not go moldy as happens in hot weather. Great if it sprouts.
LUCERNE HAY: 1 biscuit daily ­ no more than this.
ADD THE 1/3 DIPPER BRAN AND THE WHEAT GERM
COPRICE RICE BRAN: ½ dipper twice daily ­ depending on
workload
PASTURE HAY OR OATEN HAY: As much as horse can eat.
MAKE SURE HORSE HAS ACCESS TO HAY AT ALL TIMES
ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAVELLING TO HELP PREVENT TYING UP
ADD ALL THE ABOVE SUPPLEMENTS WITH THE OIL TO THIS
MIX WITH A LITTLE WATER TO DAMP DOWN and chopped
carrots (optional) .
