The Shopper Buffalo Springs Chatter by Carmen Wood What a fantastic week!! I went to the Tuesday night Jam Session at Buffalo Springs (because I promised Mr. Tharp), and Mr. Tharp where were you? I hope you’re not sick! Anyway, I sang 3 songs. I enjoy singing or playing or listening to music of almost any kind. I had fun, and I’ll be back!! Then, Ken and I left out Friday at noon for Duncan, Oklahoma for my 50th High School Reunion. There were 275 in my graduating class. 50 of them have already gone on. There were 78 alumni at the reunion and about that many more spouses. We met at the Agricultural Conference Center for our chuckwagon feed, and fellowship. So many of my friends I had not seen since high school! I think I ended up being part of the welcome committee because I stayed by the front door waiting and watching for my friends to come in one by one. I got lots and lots of hugs and gave lots and lots of hugs too! I had people tell me, “I would have known you without your name tag because you look just like you did 50 years ago.” I happened to be the shortest in my class. Well short doesn’t change. Now I have to tell something on myself. I waited 50 years to tell my very best friend I was sorry.. for slapping her on the school bus for telling me there was no Santa Claus (at 13 years old!). We had a good laugh and we hugged and hugged. Her name is Margaret, and we got in lots of visiting. Then Saturday we all met in front of our high school and took a group picture. Needless to say I always end up on the front row, and having to kneel down a little. Do you know how hard it is to kneel down when you’re 68 years old?! But I did okay; I had a guy on one side of me and a gal on the other side who kept me from falling on my face. The photographer said, “Okay, smile on the count of 3; back straight, kneeling, chin up and show some teeth.” And, I said, “Well, hurry! It’s hard for a short gal to keep her back straight while she’s kneeling!”, and then to smile big enough to show teeth when your knees are screaming! So we all had some laughs while getting our picture made. I did get to play my favorite game. Someone asked, “Who wants to play 42?” I was the first one to jump up and say, Me! Well, I played 42 with 3 guys. Why is it that not many women will play 42? I did play, and me and my partner won! Woo Whoo!! Saturday lunch we had a picnic lunch in the park, and then Saturday night a social and supper. Since some were calling it a happy hour I decided to wait until 7:00 for the supper. When we came in, someone grabbed me and away we went to the front for another group picture..more kneeling! I don’t know about Ken, but I had a marvelous time and enjoyed seeing old friends so very much. We let the partiers go do their thing at someone’s house, while a bunch of us went to the “Historical Prairie House” for visiting and 42 dominos. To make a long story short, we spent another night and went to church at my old church, First Free Will of Duncan. Had some more fun visiting time with Mary K and James Cook (classmates and old church friends). There Thursday, June 13, 2013 3 I want to express my thanks to the man who returned my wallet last Friday. You’re really a guardian angel. Thanks, Cliffa Anderson was a man that is going to that church now (for 5 years) that was a close friend of Mike’s (my deceased husband), and Mike had spent many, many hours witnessing to him trying to get him in church. I had to say a little prayer and ask God to tell Mike that Burl is finally in church. I even told the guy that Mike would be very proud of him for being in church. That seemed to make him happy because he told me he was also singing in church, too. God answers prayers!! Maybe not in our time, but in the right time… His time.
