As a leading aviation insurance broker in South
Africa, Comav Risk Services (Pty) Limited
has announced three innovative new services,
which will be of substantial benefit to the
commercial and domestic aviation sectors.
In addition to their very competitive and
service-driven aviation insurance business,
Comav recently launched Free-Flight Excess
Waiver, a pilot excess programme covering
instructors, students, charter and hire & fly
pilots - in respect of the excess payable in the
event of an accident or incident occurring,
whilst piloting non-owned aircraft.
Whilst this has been offered before, this is
the first time that the cover is offered across
all aircraft types, with excesses reduced to
NIL, and cover options extended to include
micro-lights, LSA, gyroplanes, fixed wing
and rotor wing aircraft, at market leading
premiums. The premiums offered are more
competitive than most other options available
in the market, and the offering comes
with the underwriting security of Santam
Aviation, the largest aviation insurer on
the African continent, and therefore offers
added peace of mind to any commercial
flight training or aircraft rental business.
Comav have focused on absolute simplicity
in the purchasing of cover. All that is required
is for the application form to be completed
and returned to them, for cover to be
activated and confirmed by return email.
The application form is available on
their website, at www.comav.co.za, as
well as from most flight schools and pilot
shops across the country, and on email or
telephonic request from their offices.
For assistance with any Excess Waiver related
queries, documentation or cover activation,
contact Chenee Fourie, on 086-181-9212,
or e-mail cheneef@comav.co.za

Bitou Municipality
withdraws from
outsourcing
the Plettenberg
Bay Airport
Bitou Municipality has been involved
in a prolonged dispute over the
outsourcing of the running and
development of the airport to Indiza
Airport Management Company.
The municipality has resolved
not to proceed with the project and
has informed the Hangar Owners
Association (HOA and other
interested parties about the decision.
The Airport will therefore,
remain under the management
of Bitou Municipality at a
cost which far exceeds the
income generated by its use.
A decision will be taken as soon
as possible and certainly during the
course of the current financial year, as
the ratepayers of Bitou Municipality
can no longer afford to sustain the
cost of maintaining the airport. ·

Emirates has been flying its
imposing twin flagship being
the 352 seat B777 300 ER into
Ksia for quite a while now and
I am told that its flying full with
more and more people opting to
go to Europe via Dubai instead
of Johannesburg from Durban.
Emirates are to be complimented
on their staying power and
where others bailed out from
Durban Emirates continued
persisting with an A330 out
of Durban International.
The B777 300 ER is
powerful has a huge cargo
capacity, is a delight to fly
I being quiet and just looks
the part it really does. It
has an amazing first and
business class too.
SA Express are now flying
direct to both Harare and
Lusaka from Durban and these
routes are doing well. The
Harare route uses a specially
painted Durban beachfront
CRJ 200 which is a 52 seater.
Inanti Ntshanga the
CEO is very happy with load
factors. They also service
Els Plz and Cpt from the
Durban mini hub and ACSAs
Brand manager King Shaka
Colin Naidoo is determined
to keep them all happy
which should lead to further
destinations being explored. ·

well from their mini hub at King Shaka
