Darren Simpson Reining Clinic by Monique van Vliet Darren Simpson in Collie Collie Western Riding Association held a reining show and clinic on the 9th and 10th of March with Darren Simpson from Queensland. As a NRHA worldwide judge Darren judged the show on Saturday morning and gave a clinic the rest of the weekend. It was good to see so many entries in the show. All the regular faces where there; some with their old horses, some with new ones. But it was especially good to see lots of new faces giving the exciting sport of reining a try. Classes run where; Open, Limited Non Pro, Prime Time, Snaf e/Hackamore, Green as Grass rider, Green as Grass horse and Beginner. Definitely a good turnout for the first show of the year. Hopefully this trend will continue through the rest of the season. Saturday afternoon Darren gave a fantastic clinic with 3 riders per group to get everyone in. Sunday all riders enjoyed a private lesson each. All riders had their own list of things to get help with but a lot of the reiners worked on their stops, lead changes and tidying up their spins. Everyone had a blast. Darren has a positive and confident attitude which made the riders feel very invigorated after the lessons. With the foundations in place there are unlimited results, according to Darren. That’s why he uses his training techniques in all disciplines; dressage, jumping, endurance, reining, cutting, camp drafting, competitive trail, western pleasure and stock horse events, from staring young horses to resolving unacceptable behavior.
