As many of you know, Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity was one of co-founders of the school. In commemoration of this milestone, Dean Adam Stabholz ushered attendees, including graduates of the school from around the world, distinguished dental leaders, Alpha Omega officers, directors, members, and friends, through several events in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority. First, a Tree of Peace statue was unveiled at Al-Quds University in the Palestinian Authority. The occasion celebrated the close collaboration of Hebrew University and Al-Quds University. There are also Trees of Peace at Hebrew University, A.T. Still University Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, and at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry. Second, under the auspices of The D. Walter Cohen Middle East Center for Dental Education, the 5th Middle Eastern Symposium conducted sessions at Al-Quds University and Hebrew University. This Symposium illustrated the true sharing between Israeli and Palestinians in Jerusalem by stressing knowledge, human compassion, and understanding. Third, Hebrew University hosted a scientific convention, which featured some of the foremost educators in dentistry, including past deans from Hebrew University as well as speakers from around the world. One of the highlights of the convention was a tour of the Alpha Omega museum which contains memorabilia that traces the 106 year history of the fraternity from 1907, when it was founded, to the present day. Fourth, during the scientific convention, the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders held a meeting for charter members to discuss the group’s progress. [Alpha Omega is a charter member]. The Alliance, hosted by Dean Amid Ismail of the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, works globally by promoting peace, relationship building and understanding through oral health as part of total health. The next meeting will be during the FDI convention in Istanbul, Turkey. Please click here for more information. Finally, the anniversary festivities concluded with a gala at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem.
