SVCF FINANCIAL REPORT
grants
We provide opportunities for donors to make a difference anywhere in
the world. Thanks to their generosity, in 2012 Silicon Valley Community
Foundation gave more money to charities than any other community
foundation in the United States. Since our inception in 2007, SVCF has
awarded over $1.5 billion in total grants from all funds.
In 2012 our grants from all funds, including those established by
individuals, families and corporations, totaled a record-high $294 million
to nonprofits in the Bay Area, nationwide and around the world. Of that
total, nearly $130 million went to organizations in the San Francisco
Bay Area, making SVCF the top single grantmaker to local nonprofits.
In addition, our expertise in international giving continues to grow. In
2012 we granted nearly $15 million to charities in 29 countries
outside the United States. SVCF is the third-largest international
grantmaker in the nation as measured by the number of grants
awarded and 15th by total grant amount.
Grants from all types of advised funds continue to represent the
largest share of overall grants awarded at $204 million, making up
69 percent of all grants we awarded. Of that total, corporate advised
funds provided over $26 million in grants in 2012 to support a wide
range of causes, including mathematics and technology education
and anti-human-trafficking programs.
SVCF awarded 299 scholarships totaling $918,000 to deserving
students in 2012. That brought total scholarship grants to more
than $4 million since 2007.
