Caring and Healing
Your Generosity at Work
THE HEALING GARDEN
in the courtyard between
St. Anthony Hospital and OrthoColorado Hospital bloomed
more beauti fully in its second year, as new benches, fl owers
and meditati on area were added. This place of respite and
calm was made possible by individual donati ons and a grant
from the Colorado Garden Show.
The Healing Garden is a place of respite and healing for
pati ents, families, physicians and staff .
ST. ANTHONY CANCER CARE CENTER
provided
comprehensive breast cancer navigati on and treatment for
eleven low-income pati ents, thanks to a treatment grant from
Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundati on.
"Here's what I want the individual just
diagnosed with breast cancer to know:
Yes, this is frightening...probably the
biggest challenge you've ever faced. But
you are not alone. If you need someone
to walk with you through this process,
I'll be there."
Bonnie McClusky, RN, Certi fi ed Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator
ST. ANTHONY PREHOSPITAL SERVICES
provided basic and advanced training for 200 fi rst
responders throughout Colorado. A new SimBaby pediatric
simulator, purchased with your donati ons and a Colorado
Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Provider grant,
enhanced the training.
SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINER (SANE)
PROGRAM
provided 264 victi ms of sexual assault with
compassionate, expert care and collected forensic evidence
to help prosecute off enders. With your donati ons and
several grants, the 14 SANE nurses, who provide 24/7 on-call
coverage, att ended the educati on classes needed to maintain
their state-of-the art clinical and forensic knowledge.
REDUCING READMISSIONS (RECONNECT
COACHES)
served 1,820 pati ents in 2013. These volunteer
transiti on coaches provided pati ents with personal health
records, coached them how to care for themselves, once
they got home, and how to know when to contact a doctor.
Pati ents who had a coach prepare them for discharge were
16% less likely to need a trip to the ER or to be readmitt ed to
the hospital within 30 days.
PATIENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FUND
provided extra help, including prescripti ons, transportati on,
and home medical equipment, for 150 low-income pati ents,
so they could make the transiti on home from the hospital
more easily. This was possible by your compassionate
contributi ons.
ASSOCIATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FUND
helped 43 St. Anthony Hospital associates, facing an
unanti cipated fi nancial crisis, with monetary assistance to help
them get through the crisis and move forward in their lives.
Your gift s to St. Anthony Health Foundati on
in 2013 brought healing and comfort
to pati ents and families at St. Anthony
Hospital. Here are a few of the things
made possible by your generous gift s.
INTEGRATIVE HEALING SERVICES' ART
THERAPY PROGRAM
served 158 pati ents and 54 family
members. This new therapy is especially useful for trauma
pati ents, those experiencing long hospital stays and facing
major life changes resulti ng from serious injury or illness.
LODGING AND SUPPORT SERVICES
found low-
cost, affordable housing for 2,922 out-of-town families of
seriously ill or injured patients in the ICU at St. Anthony
Hospital. In additi on, the hospitality team helped families fi nd
nearby groceries, restaurants, pharmacies, churches, and
other services during their extended stays in nearby hotels.
Donors helped support the costs for 20% of the families, who
were unable to afford even the discounted hotel rates.
This "Nest of Hopes" was created by a cancer support group, as a symbol of
the safety of the group and the personal growth (ti ny clay eggs) available to
them following their cancer diagnoses.
