This month's publication looks at the
innovative design of the Park Place project
located in the City of Irvine. Park Place
has been "reimagined, redeveloped, and
renewed" into a place that is synergized and
allows people spaces that can be utilized for
everyday work purposes and for the visitors
coming to dine and shop.
Park Place has a variety of design elements
that allowed it to be an integrated design
project. We had all of the in-house LPA
disciplines working collaboratively from
the master plan stages through design and
construction. Our civil and structural team
had an engineering challenge designing the
concourse deck with a valet parking lot on
top of an existing structure that was originally
designed for pedestrian use. With the lush
landscaping along with vehicles accessing
the deck, the additional weight to the
existing structure posed a design constraint.
The solution was to use a lightweight geo-
synthetic fill material called Geofoam in place
of heavier soils beneath the planters and
ramps.
With a LEED Gold certification, the project
embraces sustainability. From drought
tolerant plants to the energy conscious design,
LPA incorporated these design elements
through our integrated process.
This project will be enjoyed by the people that
work at the Park Place corporate campus and
by the community that visits and creating an
environment where there is synergy.
