In a move that has been welcomed by equestrian
safety campaigners, changes to the FEI rules
that require all riders to wear helmets in dressage
competitions when riding, will be introduced by
the Australian Dressage committee.
While top hat and tails are the traditional attire
at the higher level of competition, event riders
such as Megan Jones and Natalie Blundell
have already been seen out and about wearing
helmets in the higher level events.
INtERNatIONal
Australians have been hitting the news in
international events, with Australian and New
Zealand riders taking on the world at the
Badminton Horse Trials in the UK. Chris Burton
and Sam Griffiths finished a creditable 10th
and 15th respectively but it was the young
Kiwi, Jonathon Paget, who won the prestigious
three day event at his first attempt. For a while
it looked as though it may have been a repeat
of the Kentucky Three-Day-Event where New
Zealand's Andrew Nicholson and Great Britain's
William Fox-Pitt finished first and second, but a
few mishaps towards the end saw them finish
lower down the ranks with Paget as surprised
as everyone to wrestle first place from Michael
Jung. Photo-journalist Jenelle Christopher
represented Hoofbeats at Kentucky and some
of her photographs can be seen in the June July

Closer to home, the Sydney CCI3* saw Australia
take out the Trans-Tasman Eventing Challenge
with individual honours going to Stuart Tinney on
Pluto Mio. Our e-magazine manager, Di Bawden,
was there supporting riding friends, as well
as representing Hoofbeats and promoting the
e-magazine with a display on the Julia McLean's
WOW Saddle stand.

The response to the graphic/web technician
position promoted on the Hoofbeats facebook
has elicited an exceptional response, so thank
you to all those who expressed interest. Now the
magazine is on the presses we'll be finalising
the position, and will introduce the successful
candidate to readers.
Last issue we told you that our in-house
Hoofbeats graphics wizard was hitting the show
jumping circuit on the east coast, well, Caitlin
Bolger and the Team Bolger horses are back,
and they brought with them a huge haul of prizes.
Well done Caitlin and team.
