The saying for the week is: “The trouble with being punctual is there’s nobody there to appreciate it.“ Well Fathers Day is wrapping up and it has been a special one here. Shelley had a few surprises for me and the best one was being able to Skype with Kayla half way around the world. For those not familiar, Skype is a service that allows you to speak in real time over your computer internet. So it was almost like having my youngest here while I was opening cards. So many things in our modern life have made it possible to be closer to those we love on these special days. That is something else to be thankful for when you start counting our many Blessings. The rain and warm weather has paid off in the most wonderful way with a nice crop of wild plums. I turned onto Farmer Road the other morning in time to see our neighbor, Linda Wells, parked on the side of the road and standing in the midst of a plum thicket. I stopped and sure enough she was busy collecting the ripe fruit with plans of cooking up a batch of fresh jelly. I am sure Charles is enjoying the fruits of her labor as I write this weeks column. Hopefully she didn’t get the added bonus of getting covered in chiggers like we did several years ago while out picking. It is almost worth every chigger bite though just to spread fresh plum jelly on your biscuit in the morning. The Denson’s have quite the project underway at their place these days. I had seen the demolition taking place for several days as layers of siding came down around their home. The next several days brought on carpenters doing any needed repair work and prepping the exterior for what looks to be quite the facelift. House wrap is now in place and I can see the stacks of rock that will soon be installed. Knowing David and Debbie I am sure it will look WEEKLY by Bruce Specht absolutely outstanding when the job is completed. The Tuesday Night All Acoustic Music Jam at the Center continues to be well attended. If you either sing or play an acoustic instrument you are invited to join in too. Even if you are only just a fan of great gospel/country music you will want to drop in and enjoy the talented folks sharing their gift of music. If you have not attended, take this as a personal invite for you to come and spend the evening participating or just listening. This is always a good time of food and fellowship beginning at 6:30 - 9:00 each week. Donations are accepted. Now you can't beat that price for an evenings entertainment. I have a new third cousin with the birth of Mary and Tyler Smiths baby girl on Saturday in Austin. This makes the first grandbaby for Joe Weldon Specht, my cousin, of Abilene. And being the first and waiting for the many years he has for this to happen you can just imagine how excited he is about the arrival. I have yet to hear the name but that is to be expected when the arrival comes five weeks early. I would ask for your prayers for this granddaughter since she will be in the hospital for several weeks. Congratulations Mary and Tyler on your first addition to your family. As Joe shared via email; All’s right with the world. In other prayers this week please also remember Kathy Middleton, Debra Carner, Dane Lancaster, Gary Ferguson, Jeffrey Padgett, Ava Lawson, Josie Wise, Kay and Earnest Perkins, Grover Watkins, Dewey Staley, Sue Phillips, Wanda Molsbee, Trey Spivey, JoAnn Spivey, Betty Jo Hatfield, Bill Bartlett, B.J. Tate, Garrett Nunn, and Philip Lawson. Please remember to keep Tyler Galligher and all those from our area actively serving in the military at this time. oroscope H 1308 E.
