4. Compost
What is compost? In short, it is described as 'decayed organic material used as a
plant fertiliser'. Compost is packed with nutrients, encourages plant growth, and
improves the quality of soil, which in turn improves the quality of what you plant
in it. Rooibos also contains nutrients as well as trace minerals, both favourable
when it comes to plant growth. Margaret Roberts, a notable name in the local
gardening and natural health community, said, 'Instead of throwing away your
used Rooibos tea leaves or bags, use it along with other vegetable and fruit
peelings to make a balanced compost mix.'
reasons
why
Rooibos
is your
vegetable garden's
best friend!
You've just finished making the
perfect cup of Annique tea and
are headed toward the
dustbin to throw
your teabag away,
right? Stop! That
teabag has more
uses than simply
brewing a cup of
the queen's favourite
drink, and you can
use a few of them
to help your
veggie
garden
flourish.
2. Homegrown
You don't have to cut down on buying
vegetables because they are becoming too
expensive or unnutritious. Grow your own! "A
soil rich in organic compounds, such as Rooibos,
will give any gardener a healthy and generous
crop that will make them proud," says popular South
African gardener, JJ van Rensburg.
3. Planting foundation
If you plan on going all out in your attempt to start a vegetable garden, make
sure the soil you use has been properly prepared beforehand. Mixing the
contents of Rooibos teabags into the soil will help do that because Rooibos is
a great natural fertiliser. Rooibos also adds nitrogen to the soil, which makes it
more productive and conducive to growth.
1. Pest prevention
Having trouble keeping snails
and pesky insects away from your
vegetable garden? Sprinkle the
contents of your teabag over the plants
and ground surrounding them, it will
help keep the creepy crawlies at bay.
