2013 Champion Young Showjumping Horse Yalambi’s Cambridge and Maddi Stephen with judges Ross Newman, Chris Chugg and Les Bunning and Horseland’s Cheryl Campbell. Heathway’s long-term support through its ‘Go for 2 & 5’ program has yielded positive returns. In recent years, young WA riders have multiplied and been formidable in local and interstate competitions. Now a ‘new’ younger group of riders is starting to shine. Young Isabelle McLachlan displayed a seamless transition from pony to horse by winning the 80cm Jumping Masters class on Liaison. And the outstanding rider in the Go for 2 & 5 qualifiers was Heath Ahmat, who won the other two classes - the 1-1.05m Jumping Masters on his exceptional pony Serene Dream and the 1.15m Jumping Masters Junior Jumper on Sweet As NZPH, the Selle Francais mare he began riding this year to replace the pony he’s all but outgrown. Finishing just behind him on time in the 1.15m Junior Jumper was Heath’s teenage sister, Sophie, on Mon Amie NZPH, who went on to an impressive maiden win in the Patersons Securities 1.35m Open class – their first attempt at this height. Entries were also bursting in Swan River Showjumping’s open and restricted height classes. Experienced rider Shawn Squire guided Phantom Warrior to a win in the 1-1.05m Open. Caitlin Bolger and Oaks Vendetta came second in that class, but returned with a vengeance to claim first in the 1.15m for Horses 20 Points & Under. Darren Taylor and Barrabadeen Cougar put a smile on the face of owner Annemarie Frank by scoring a double win in both the 1.15m and 1.25m Open classes. Hanna Fletcher finished first in the 1.25m 21 & Under, while Maddison Stephen took second and third on the newly crowned 2013 Horseland Young Showjumping Horse, Yalambi’s Cambridge, and Gemma Alexander’s Barrabadeen Calypso. Efficient helpers and officials kept the crowded program on track and the show managed to finish before the sun set, everyone looking forward to the same event next year.
