Health Revival
CHHR aims to raise awareness about health issues that affect the
communities of Harlem and to empower community residents to make
good health a goal for life. The health festival began with a health
awareness walk, after which the walkers all met up in the center of the
park where all the different health organization's booths were set
up. AO has participated in this Health Festival in the past and this year
was in charge of the dental screenings for the day.
The event took place at Riverbank State Park, 679 Riverside Drive at
145th Street from 1pm - 5pm. We had five 2nd year volunteers run-
ning the AO table and charting and three 3rd/4th year volunteers per-
forming the dental screenings, with Dr. Gail Schupak as the attend-
ing. A total of 51 patients were screened and referred to the Columbia
Clinic for future treatment. Each screened patient, as well as other
community members that were present at the event, received a goodie
bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss (all donated by Colgate).
The event was extremely successful and we look forward to
participating in it again in the future!
Steve Feldman, a D2 student and University of Maryland Zeta Mu member, recently participated in the
Student Clinicians of the ADA (SCADA) Program. The program is sponsored by DENTSPLY
International. Each year, one student from each dental school in the United States, as well as several in-
ternational schools, is selected to present their research at the ADA Annual Session. This past October, the
ADA Annual Session took place in New Orleans, Louisiana. In this program, Students compete against one
another in one of two categories, Basic Science or Clinical Research.
