Hello Alpha Omegan Students!
My name is Sarah Kaplan. I am currently a third-year DDS student at SUNY University at
Buffalo, in Buffalo, New York (Alpha Chapter of Alpha Omega). I am also Editor of your
2013 AO Articulator! I have really enjoyed my position as Articulator Editor. It has given
me a chance to see what AO student members across the US and abroad have been
doing. The experience has been extremely rewarding. Hearing about the many philan-
thropic and charitable events each chapter hosts, and the individual externships and
mentorship opportunities that students have been taking advantage of, has only made
my love for Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity grow deeper.
I want to encourage students to come forward to be the 2014
Editor for the AO International Student Newsletter. The experi-
ence has been unique, rewarding, and fulfilling. If you are looking
for an easy and fun way to be more involved in AO, at an interna-
tional level, this is the position for you! I am willing to answer any
questions you have regarding the position, and will hopefully be
your right-hand-woman during the 2014-year, as I have put in a
bid to run for 2014 International Student Representative (ISR).
I hope you each can support me in this undertaking. As ISR I will
take on a heavy amount of responsibility, and joining the ranks of
some great AO students who came before me. I like what Alpha
Omega stands for: Act locally, think globally, and be selfless, enthusiastic and caring. My
experience as part of Alpha Omega has really shown this to be true. I would like to be
your next ISR because I am organized, reliable, want to create an organization for every-
one with different levels of involvement, and want everyone to succeed. Since being AO
Newsletter Editor, AO has moved to a monthly newsletter format. This has meant that I
must increase my connectivity amongst different AO chapters to receive articles and
news. As ISR, I want to further increase inter-chapter and inter-member communication,
increase awareness of AO events to boost AO event attendance, and help to expand the
Mentorship Program that was started in Spring 2013. I also wish to work with our Young
Alumni Representative to improve our young alumni participation and retention. I am
willing and ready to take on whatever may come with the position.
I hope to see you each at our "Shore-to-Ship" Alpha Omega Convention in Florida. The
week will begin with 4-days in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (December 25-29) followed by a 7-day
cruise (December 29 - January 5). It will be a great time, and an opportunity to see the
bigger picture of AO.
Thank you for a wonderful year, and for contributing great articles to our Newsletter.
Please continue to send me articles at
for future publication
Sincerely,
Sarah Kaplan
