Many AO students and siblings have already had the amazing experience of a Birthright trip. For those students who are eligible and have not participated yet, here is a golden opportunity to visit Israel with fellow AO students and visit the two Israeli dental schools (founded by AO). The trip will also coincide with the 2014 AO Convention in Tel Aviv. Click here for eligibility requirements. Contact Heidi Weber, executive Director, for more information. This season’s mentoring program is off to an excellent start with nearly twice as many participants in this second phase than in last January’s Beta Test. We started advertising and recruiting participants in late September, and soon after received a flow of emails from eager dental students looking for guidance. A resident from Missouri, as well as dental students from University of Western Ontario, University of Buffalo NY, Temple University, University of Louisville, University of Toronto, and University of Michigan comprise our pool of mentees this season. Mentoring needs vary and include a desire to learn about the different fields, dental residency choices, how to run a practice, as well as networking opportunities. We currently have 15 mentors, two of them from our Beta Test who signed up again, and one resident who expressed interest in providing educational guidance for students. Our Mentoring Handbook highlighting the steps of this program has been sent to all participants. Mentors have now received their mentee’s contact information as well as information about their interests in an inquiry sheet filled out by the mentee. They will initiate contact sometime in the next week and have their first mentoring session by november 11th. It’s not too late to participate! If you’d like to join our pool of mentors and mentees, please contact me at vforestier@ao.org. In the spirit of Halloween (in the U.S.), I’ll treat you to an appropriate mentor or mentee match! a l p h a o m e g a | a o n o w 6 Alpha omegan Alpha omegan now available online at ao.org for members only! www.ao.org
