Earth Day Volunteers
Earth Day Festival 2013 at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens was a
success thanks to student volunteers.
Farmer (Nancy B) Jones recognized 16 volunteers from
Guajome Park Academy who worked on set-up, crafts and clean-
up for the Festival.
Student volunteers from Guajome Park Academy were: Drake
Alford, Lucas Anderson, Tereza Bautista, Stevie Brunner, James
Carrino, Cecilia Escamilla, Kate Freund, Marissa Gee, Renee
Moreno, Ilse Rodriguez, Maddie Scheid, John Scheri, Ryan
Tripp, Cristina Zafra, Tereza Zafra, Zach Zamora.
"The best plans for our children visiting the Festival just don't
work unless we have volunteers to lead the way," stated Farmer
Jones. "Our volunteers connect with the families and make sure
every child who comes to the Festival has the chance to make
pinwheel or garden flag, plant a tomato to take home, or discov-
er worms and compost." This year's Earth Day Festival wel-
comed 1000 visitors and 60 student volunteers.

The Alta Vista Botanical Gardens and Children's
Garden, located inside Brengle Terrace Park,
are open daily for visitors.
The Gardens can be found at 1270 Vale Terrace
Drive with play features, the Incredible Edibles
Garden, and a Children's Music Garden; butterflies
dance throughout the year. The monthly Kids in the
Garden class brings children and families into
nature and gardening; reservations are required.
