Broadmoor Resource Center to Roleplay again.
Shreve Memorial Library Broadmoor Resource Center will feature another Roleplaying Games
for Beginners
program on Wednesday, January 23 from 6:00-9:00 PM. The facilitators (Jeff Impson and
Patrick Davis, pictured L to R, below) will guide players through the basics on how to play pen-and-paper,
table-top roleplaying games. The rule-system used is the Pathfinder Roleplaying System published by Paizo,
but the class will cover the universal basics that all roleplaying games share. We
will learn how to run a game, how to build characters, and how a turn-based
combat system works. The players will be provided with pre-generated 1st level
characters. Dice will be available, though participants can bring their own. The
program will focus both on learning game basics and in actual combat scenario
play. For more information about roleplaying games, contact Jeff or Patrick at
869-0120 or visit http://paizo.com/pathfinder.
Overdrive 101 at Shreve Memorial Library
So, whatcha get? I mean, I hope your holiday season was filled with family, friends,
and the renewal of your soul. But aside from that, didja get any new toys? A better
smartphone, a new e-reader, maybe one of those too-cool-to-be-believed convert-
ible computers? If so, it might interest you to know that Shreve Memorial Library has
Overdrive, a service that provides downloadable materials for all kinds of devices. So,
you can fill up your new device's hungry tummy for free by borrowing e-books, audiobooks, even music and
videos from your e-library. If you need help doing that, you can always give your local branch a call or stop
by, but we're also offering two sessions of Overdrive 101, an intensive, bring-your-own-device party where
we'll take you from Nook newbie to downloading denizen in just a few minutes. NOTE: if you have a new
Nook, please make sure it's "activated" before attending this event, or we won't be able to work with
it. The people at the Barnes and Noble store will be more than happy to take care of that for you.

Do you know what your teens are reading? Find out January 24 @ 12:15 PM.
Are you concerned that the books your tweens and teens are reading are things you
wouldn't be comfortable with them reading? Are they reading too many vampire or zom-
bie books? Do you worry dystopian books like the Hunger Games may be too dark for
your sixth grader? Is your kid just not reading? Please join LeVette Fuller, Shreve Memorial
Library's Teen Services Coordinator, at
Shreve Memorial Library Main Branch for an
introduction to YA literature. This discussion is ideal for any parent curious about what is happening between
the covers of the popular and sometimes controversial books being marketed to teens. Come learn about
what your kids love to read and why they love it. Ms. Fuller will also include a detailed list of books from the
YA section that are appropriate for middle school students and advanced elementary students. Sack lunches
may be pre-ordered from Se7endipity (next door) by January 22. To reserve your space, please call 226-3009.

Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities: Relic Program
BATTLEGROUND LOUISIANA: CIVIL WAR EVENTS AND EXPERIENCES
Shreve Memorial Library Hamilton/South Caddo Resource Center
Thursdays,
January 24 through March 7, 6:30 8:30 PM
Discussion Leader:
Stephen Webre, Ph.D. Department of History, Louisiana Tech University
Since 1983, the LEH's adult reading and discussion series, RELIC, has enrolled nearly 96,000 readers in 63 parishes across Louisiana. These 6-week
thematic series are led by university scholars, who introduce the books and lead group discussions. Sessions are FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. This
humanites-based reading program employs historical works to promote reflection and discussion about Louisiana's experience in the American Civil
War (1861-1865). The subject is of enduring interest, but it is especially timely at this moment, as the nation observes the 150th anniversary of this
great internal conflict, which cost more than 600,000 lives and in the process dramatically transformed both the South and the country as a whole. The
reading/discussion series is free and open to the public. For a list of core and supplemental readings, please contact 687-6824.
