Youth Art at Studio 1
Discover and support emerging artists at Studio 1 during the annual Hidden in the Hills Artist Studio Tour. Talented, hardworking local students will showcase their artwork all six days of the tour and their work will remain on display through December at the Sonoran Arts League Center for the Arts located in Stagecoach Village in Cave Creek. Youth Art at Studio 1 has been a part of Hidden in the Hills for 22 years and offers a fun glimpse into the future of art. Young painters, sculptors and mixed media artists from grades 6-12 will be exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their artwork. Many of them plan to study art in college or find a mentor to help them grow professionally. Also on exhibit will be the winning selections from a new contest the Sonoran Arts League launched this fall called, “Those Who Serve.” This contest embraced a full range of ages and includes non-League members. The Sonoran Arts League Center for the Arts also serves as the Information Headquarters for the popular Hidden in the Hills Artist Studio Tour. Visitors can pick up directories and maps and inquire about other details prior and during the tour. We look forward to seeing you at Studio 1!
Host Praneetha Tangallpalli will welcome you at Youth Art at Studio 1. Praneetha also is the Student Membership Leader for Sonoran Arts League.
Kiwanis Youth & Mentorship Grant
Education and mentorship have always been a part of the Sonoran Arts League mission. This year Kiwanis Club of Carefree helped us reach our goals with a Kiwanis Youth and Education and Mentorship grant, totaling nearly $10,000. Thanks to their generosity, we will be able to offer the following workshops free to students in our community: • Three Preparatory Workshops for Studio 1: – How to photograph artwork and order prints/giclées – How to stage your work – How to demonstrate and sell art • Four 3-hour Saturday Workshops in the fall • Three 3-hour Saturday Workshops in the spring • Two 1-week Summer Camps in 2021 The Sonoran Arts League has a dedicated Youth Art committee working hard to provide opportunities for student exhibits, field trips, Incentive Awards and scholarships to young artists in our community. Student art can be viewed at Cave Creek Town Hall, Desert Foothills Library, CCUSD District Office and the Fine Art Center at Cactus Shadows High School (CSHS). Cactus Shadows High School students are sponsored for two field trips — one in the fall and one in the spring. Additionally, 110 students are chosen by their teachers to participate in the annual spring Celebration of Art. This is an exhibit and award ceremony to recognize students for their excellence in the arts by giving them each an Incentive Award from their art teacher, plus a bag full of brand-new art supplies to explore over the summer. The League has awarded over $40,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing studies in the fine arts and countless scholarship money has been awarded to younger students wanting to take summer classes. The Sonoran Arts League continues to encourage and support artistic development in the students of our community.
