The Montague Lady Eagles won the 7th Grade division of the Windthorst Tournament for the 3rd
straight year Saturday. Last year Montague competed and won the 8th grade division but chose to
compete in the 7th grade division this year due to the majority of the team being 6th and 7th graders.
Montague opened the tournament defeating Windthorst 25-19, 25-18, then defeated Henrietta 25-21,
25-17 before defeating Barwise in a very exciting championship game 18-25, 26-24, 15-8. Taygon
Jones lead the way for the tournament with 50 kills (23 in the championship game), 6 aces, 21 digs, 6
assists and 3 saves. Other outstanding stats for the tournament include: Skyler Smith 5 aces, 13 digs,
2 kills, 19 assists; Maci Read 9 assists; Kate Sherwin 2 kills, 11 digs, 9 assists; Emilee Read 3 aces,
4 digs; Charli Snow 2 aces, 2 digs, 2 assists; Addi Eichler had 2 digs while Lexi Todd had 4 assists.
Emma Strahan stepped in and served up 100% of her serves during game point for Barwise, to win
the 2nd set of the championship game for the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles defeated Gold-Burg Montague the 25th in 2 sets 25-20, 25-13. Both teams elected
to play a 3rd developmental game and the Lady Eagles won that one also 25-15. Montague is now 9-1
and will travel to Forestburg Monday.

5th Annual BTX Bike Rally 2017 to be held
Saturday, October 7th
The BTX Bike Rally will be held this year on Saturday, October 7th with the Start / Finish line at
Creative Cakes & Salad Bar, 104 Smythe St., Downtown Bowie, Texas. Numerous rest stops will
support riders on 10, 20, 40 and 60 mile routes through the beautiful rolling hills of Montague and
Jack counties.

registration available at Start / Finish line from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The BTX Bike Rally is produced by a non-profit organizational committee of volunteers. All
profitsfromtheRallybenefitthehealthofBowieyouth.Proceedsfromthe2016eventof$2,000were
donated to the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department's annual Christmas Toy Drive.
Occurring the same day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the annual Chicken & Bread Heritage Festival is a
FREE EVENT. Enjoy a Classic Car show, Live Fiddling Contest, Food and Product Vendors, Quilt
Show, Art Show, games and entertainment throughout the day.
The monthly Second Monday Trade Days will also be occurring the same weekend with Saturday
and Sunday the main selling days for vendors.
Cyclists, their friends and families are welcome and encouraged to attend either or both events as
well as visit the restaurants and merchants of downtown Bowie.
