14 Thursday, July 20, 2017 The Shopper Legend Bank Partners with Carter Bloodcare for Battle of the Badges Blood Drive Life is a gift – no matter how long it is. The gift of blood can add extra life moments when days, minutes and even seconds count. Giving blood is an extraordinary thing that ordinary persons can do for each other. Blood donations are especially needed in the summer when donors are often in short supply. Legend Bank, a community bank founded in Bowie over 127 years ago, would like to thank the Bowie community, Bowie Police Department, Bowie Fire Department, Montague County Sheriff’s Department and the Bowie Rural Fire Department for participating in the “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive at the Bowie Community Room on Wednesday, June 28. “We are so thankful for the outpouring of support from the community, law enforcement officers and fire fighters. The Battle of the Badges blood drive far exceeded our goals with 78 units of blood donated that will save 234 lives right here in our community,” said Bret Meekins, regional president, EVP, Legend Bank Bowie. “Our first responders know the importance of having blood available for distribution at hospitals when tragedies strike. Having their support of this blood drive made an incredible impact on the number of lives saved through blood donations.” Blood donations typical run low during the summer month and before the July 4th holiday is a time of need for blood centers. The Battle of the Badges blood drive collected 66 units of whole blood which saves 198 lives and six units of red blood cells were donated saving 36 lives. Enough blood was donated to save a total of 234 lives. This blood drive also featured a friendly competition to determine who would win the Battle of the Badges between all first responders present. Each donor was able to submit a ballot when they gave blood and votes were submitted via Facebook as well. Total votes were as follows: • Bowie Police Department: 42 votes • Bowie Fire Department: 31 votes • Montague County Sheriff’s Department: 24 votes • Bowie Rural Fire Department: 9 votes About Legend Bank: Legend Bank N.A. has ten locations throughout North Texas with total assets of over $609 million.
