The Stephen Decatur High School National Honor Society sponsored two Worcester GOLD families for the holidays, treating them to groceries, toiletries and presents from Santa Claus. Worcester Prep senior Saqib Khan was part of a group of students from Colleen McGuire’s programming class who served as guides for Lower School children in order to help them develop the thinking skills needed for coding. The Naval Junior ROTC program at Stephen Decatur High School sponsored the Toys for Tots program for the holidays, collecting over 300 new toys for needy families. Showell second-graders Abby West, Joshua Blume and Maddie Shirk selected books under the guidance of Book Swap volunteers Sanji Ramnarain and Constance Boyd. Students brought in good condition, age-appropriate, slightly used, reading books from home and other students took these slightly loved books home.
Stephen Decatur High School students in Christy Powell's art classes constructed architectural-style gingerbread houses called "cottage confections." Above, senior Tyler Coppinger displays his Victorian-style cottage confection, which was constructed using hundreds of pretzel sticks.
Ocean City Elementary School first-grade students participated in the Share the Warmth Program for the Salvation Army. They collected hats, mittens, gloves and scarves to be donated to children in need in this area. Pictured are Deneen Nicolle, Berlin Corbin, Serenity Shockley and Nya Carabello.
