There has got to be an easier way to eat your greens than this. Speaking of cattle, it was a great day last week after Travis located some good quality hay that I could haul in for stockpiling for the coming winter. I always sleep a bit easier knowing that there is at least a small supply on standby for those frosty mornings ahead. I know it is hard to imagine while the temperatures are still roasting us with these high ninety days but it is September and relief has to be on the way soon. Be careful until things cool on down with any flammables you might have. Things have really dried out this past week and our fire danger has risen with every passing day. The other excitement around the farm is Ruby, our quarter horse, has been keeping everybody wondering whether we just hadn’t noticed our neighbors horse or whether there is a new one across the road. Whatever the case, she has made a spectacle of herself running up and down the fence line and whinnying at all hours of the night. I haven’t seen this much fawning since Justin Beiber got off his bus in front of a line of school girls. This month’s potluck is coming up fast so I hope everyone will remember to be there next Monday the 9th at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully we will all get the chance to catch up on how everyone weathered the storm while enjoying some fine home cooking. The Community Center is cooking up something special that you need to go ahead and mark on your calendar for September. I can’t say exactly what it is yet but make sure you leave the evening of Saturday, September the 28th free. In your prayers this week please remember Keith Menard, J.T. and Jane Browning, Josie Wise, Fred Howard, Bonnie Underhill, Kay and Earnest Perkins, Mary Musgrove, Grover Watkins, Dewey Staley, Shirley Stovall, Sue Phillips, Wanda Molsbee, Trey Spivey, JoAnn Spivey, Betty Jo Hatfield, Bill Bartlett, B.J. Tate, Connie Elrod, Betty Allen, Verne Lawson, Garrett Nunn, G-Ma, Philip Lawson. Please remember all those from our area actively serving in the military at this time. I hope all my readers had a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend and got in the needed break from work and your daily routine. I know here at the Specht home we took advantage of the days to take on some serious downtime. We did slip in a trip to Wichita Falls to pick up some of the last items the girls needed for school projects. I also spent a lot of time trouble shooting on some mechanical problems that have cropped up in the last week or so. Have you ever had one of those times when every vehicle you have has some small nagging issue that needs fixing? I took care of a few myself and with a little help maybe I can put all of the others back in top shape by the end of the week. Kayla looked out the back door Saturday to quite the sight as our newest member of the family was making her way back to the house from the catch pens. Seems Jasmine had found a wonderful object to bring back to the porch to spend the afternoon chewing on. Just because it happened to be one of the biggest cow patties you have ever seen didn’t diminish the grin on her face as she brought her prize up to the house. This seems to be a habit that her big sister Belle has taught her since Belle has $12,000 $26,900 $36,900 $41,900 NEW HOMES 2014 MODELS 14X66 CHAMPION 3/2 STK# 0347 28X68 CHAMPION 4/2 STK# 0444 32X68 CHAMPION 4/2 STK# 1656 $29,900 $49,900 4272 E. During Homecoming, September 13th, there will be a wonderful reunion of Alumni of THE Bowie High School Marching Band. This event will be hosted by the decades of the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s. However, all former band students are invited to join the celebration! The Alumni will be riding a float and following the Mighty Marching Maroon Band during the Homecoming Parade. Then we will join the tailgating fun outside of Jackrabbit Stadium where we will be cooking hotdogs and doing a lot of reminiscing. The fun will continue as the Alumni follow the Band into the stadium. We will be seated next to the Band, and anyone with a horn is encouraged to play along. At halftime, the Alumni will line the football field and the Majorettes will be strutting their stuff to the BHS “Fight Song”. Also at halftime, the Charter inductees of THE Bowie High School Band Hall of Fame will be inducted. After the Homecoming game, the Alumni will be gathering at the Community Room for snacks and fellowship. There will be films of previous UIL Marching Contest, and lots of memorabilia. We encourage all former band students to join in the fun, and help raise money for the current Mighty Marching Maroon Band. Anyone that is unable to participate in the festivities is encouraged to make a donation to: Legend Bank, C/O The Bowie High School Band Alumni, PO Box 1081, Bowie, TX 76230.
