kate, a former television producer, has designed
jewellery since was a little girl; she created the first pendant to
wear while travelling, "to keep her family close to her heart".
The clean, strong lines of the pendant, a silver circlet, she dubbed
"the ubercircle" captured the attention of friends; Kate's business
grew and she left her job as a TV producer to focus full-time on
jewellery.
"You could say that was the piece that launched a thousand
Ubercircles! That was the confidence boost, or the light bulb
moment that made me think `this could really be something' as
soon as people saw the original Ubercircle, that was when buzz
really started," she says.
Ten years later, "the buzz" surrounding the original necklace,
remains. The Uberkate collection has developed into two new
lines and a range of bangles, earrings, rings and key rings with
Kate very much at the designing helm.
"I am still in our workshop daily, working hands on with the tools,
this is one part of the "job" that I can never let go of," she says.
Kate says she owes her success to husband and children, who
inspired the first piece. "Family are like heartbeat to me," she says.
"My husband, my children without them I wouldn't be me."
