by Reg Starkey
This is a delightfully silly `hokey' yarn, set in West
Virginia and delivered with great energy and style by
Steven Soderberg, starring Daniel Craig amongst
others. Daniel Craig is about as far as you can imagine
from his 007 persona, playing the part of a criminal
who is "IN CAR CER ATED!" But
the two brothers and their sister believe they can
extract him from prison in order to conclude the perfect crime
and collect loadsa dollars from a big motor racetrack event.
Red-neck escapism as break-neck pace: you simply need to sit
back and enjoy it.
ARMING THE WORLD
Open-air theatre in a square in Deptford dramatising the
case against the UK arms trade, this is surprisingly good-humoured, thankfully brief and
highly thought-provoking. Members of the audience were invited to join in, playing roles like
"A UK Taxpayer". Children were not excluded when they joined in some of the gymnastics,
uninvited! Missiles were personified and so able to explain their reliability and accuracy or
lack of it. Likewise CS Gas was able to present its credentials for crowd control. Where once
the sun never set on the British Empire, now it never sets on our arms industry. It could be
coming to a square near you and if so, is well worth viewing and hearing.
